Spot UV printing is not applied during the printing process as the name may suggest, but is applied afterwards where UV light is used to cure a varnish applied to certain areas of the printed material.
Typically this is used on business cards, brochures, flyers etc to highlight a specific area e.g. an image or logo - the high gloss finish being instantly recognisible. It can also be applied more subtlely to create areas of text in the spot UV finish alone.
